PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Trotoz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Faija Fedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve Trotoz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Faija Fedo!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trotoz avoids the head kick by Fedo.
Fedo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trotoz as he avoids it easily.
No luck for Trotoz with that takedown attempt.
Fedo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fedo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Trotoz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fedo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A head kick misses from Trotoz.
Fedo tries to score with a low kick but Trotoz moves his leg out of the way.
Fedo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Trotoz paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Trotoz drives through with a takedown into guard.

Fedo is working an open guard so Trotoz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Trotoz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Fedo can't break the clinch.
Trotoz lands an elbow inside that Fedo shrugs off.
Trotoz prevents Fedo from breaking the clinch.
Trotoz drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Trotoz breaks from the clinch.

Fedo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Fedo is looking to chop away at Trotoz's legs.
Fedo misses with a takedown attempt

and Trotoz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fedo's guard now.
Trotoz wants to control from the top but Fedo keeps moving.
Trotoz is breathing heavily.
Trotoz looking to pass the guard.
Fedo throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trotoz tries to stand but Fedo is controlling from the bottom.
Trotoz wants to control from the top but Fedo keeps moving.

Fedo is looking for a triangle but Trotoz pushes his legs off easily.

Fedo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trotoz wants to control from the top but Fedo keeps moving.

Fedo keeping full guard, as Trotoz tries to pass.
Fedo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Trotoz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trotoz pushes down on Fedo's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Trotoz works his way into full mount!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Trotoz fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Trotoz shoots for a takedown but Fedo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Trotoz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Trotoz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fedo misses with a takedown attempt - Trotoz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Trotoz wants to control from the top but Fedo keeps moving.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fedo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Trotoz dives into side control.
Fedo tries to bench press Trotoz off him but Trotoz keeps the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Fedo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Fedo drops back looking for a leg! Trotoz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Trotoz manages to kick Fedo off! Fedo jumps back into Trotoz's guard.
Trotoz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Trotoz controls Fedo momentarily but Fedo frees himself.
Trotoz manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Trotoz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Poor strikes thrown by Trotoz there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Fedo is squirming around, avoiding Trotoz's attempts to control the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fedo really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Fedo tries to clinch

and Trotoz counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Fedo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Fedo goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Trotoz's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Trotoz breaks from the clinch.
Trotoz slips a jab and a cross from Fedo.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Fedo!
Trotoz misses with a head kick.
Fedo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fedo fails with the takedown

and Trotoz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fedo has a couple of punches blocked by Trotoz.
A hook to the body from Fedo.
Fedo can't break the clinch.
Fedo has had enough of the clinch but Trotoz keeps him there for the moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fedo pulls guard.
Fedo looking to control.

Fedo has his feet on Trotoz's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Fedo closes the distance but Trotoz moves to the side

and Trotoz moves into the clinch.
Fedo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Fedo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Trotoz just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fedo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Trotoz has him pressed against the cage.
Trotoz prevents Fedo from breaking the clinch.
Fedo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Trotoz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Steve Trotoz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Faija Fedo.

Trotoz decides to pull guard.
Fedo wants to get up but he can't break Trotoz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Trotoz pulls Fedo in to control the position.
Trotoz controls Fedo momentarily but Fedo frees himself.
Faija Fedo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Trotoz is really struggling to control Fedo but he's trying to hold on to the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Trotoz is on top in guard.
Trotoz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Fedo trying to keep a closed guard but Trotoz is proving a slippery customer.

Trotoz works over Fedo with some ground and pound from guard.
Trotoz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Trotoz stands and throws Fedo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Trotoz decides to stand back up.
Fedo on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Trotoz. Trotoz obviously looking to wear him down.

Trotoz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fedo pinned against the cage. Fedo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Fedo lands with a hook. Trotoz tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Faija Fedo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fedo throws a series of punches but Trotoz moves out of range.
Fedo tries to clinch up but Trotoz circles away and keeps his distance.
Trotoz is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Fedo.
Fedo throws a series of strikes that have Trotoz backpedaling.


It looks like Steve Trotoz has been cut.
Trotoz shoots in looking for a takedown. Fedo tries to sprawl out of it but Trotoz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fedo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fedo throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fedo misses with a combination

and Trotoz counters with a single leg into guard. Fedo didn't expect that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fedo is striking off his back. Trotoz thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Trotoz showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Trotoz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
