PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doncarlo Giani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergey Petrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petrov comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Morbid Angel - Hatework kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Doncarlo Giani has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giani shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Petrov as he avoids it easily.
Giani takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Petrov connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Giani's hands.
Giani walks into a left hand.
A lazy left from Petrov finds it's target.

Giani is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Petrov circles away from the clinch attempt

and Petrov moves into the clinch.
Giani jumps guard but Petrov stands there with Giani around his waist. Giani gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Petrov lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Petrov working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Oh Giani is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Petrov digs a right hand into Giani's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Giani's gas tank.
Giani is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Petrov is defending well.
Giani seems to have got his legs back now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Doncarlo Giani. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Petrov lands a shot to the body.
Giani is breathing heavily.
A nice right hand lands inside from Petrov.
Nice body punch from Petrov - that landed with a thud.
Petrov lands a right hand that snaps the head of Giani backwards.

Petrov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Petrov works Giani's body with a nice hook.

Petrov darts in and clinches Giani up against the cage.
Petrov digs a right hand underneath Giani's ribcage. Giani let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Giani tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Petrov just stands there and leans against the cage.
A body shot lands from Petrov.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Petrov lands a body shot in the clinch.
Petrov lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A right hand to the body from Petrov.
Giani's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Still in the clinch, Petrov scores with a nice short uppercut.
Petrov lands a body shot in the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Petrov.

Petrov lands a big uppercut and Giani is down! He's in big trouble - Petrov follows him to the mat!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Petrov uses his free foot to push down on Giani's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Giani.
Petrov thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Petrov working for a guillotine from mount but Giani is in no mood to give up.

Giani has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Petrov somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

Petrov is working for a rear naked choke. Giani is not defending it well and Petrov has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Giani refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Giani's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
