PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Rio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rio comes to the cage accompanied by Landline 2.0. Jackson has chosen Gangnam Style as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson shoots in but no luck this time.
Jackson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Jackson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rio's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Rio working for a triangle but Jackson defends it easily.
Rio keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.

Rio is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Peter Jackson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jackson leaves Rio with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rio tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jackson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rio really is a fat lump.

Jackson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rio is trying to defend but Jackson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Well, if Jackson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Jackson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rio doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jackson.

Jackson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rio knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Rio is looking to control Jackson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rio avoid being mounted?
Jackson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Rio tries to lock up and control but Jackson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Rio is desperately trying to improve his position but Jackson has a good base and remains in mount.
Jackson controlling his opponent.
Jackson scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Rio is bucking up trying to escape but Jackson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Rio working to try and regain half guard.
Jackson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Jackson is working for a guillotine from mount but Rio frees his head quite easily.
Jackson is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jackson wants to take his opponent's back but Rio doesn't allow it.

Jackson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Rio to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rio shrugs it off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rio tries to lock up and control but Jackson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rio keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Jackson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Jackson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rio tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jackson is in Rio's guard.
Rio looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jackson is one step ahead there.
Rio is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jackson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Jesus Rio wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jackson fails with a takedown attempt.

Jackson tries to clinch but Rio is having none of it.
Jackson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Rio throws a wild body kick that Jackson sees coming a mile off.

Jackson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rio.

Rio is not content to let Jackson control the position.
Peter Jackson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rio struggling a bit here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jackson controls the position from side control.
Jackson moves into full mount!

Rio is looking to improve his position but Jackson isn't that keen on the idea.
Rio might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jackson scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Rio?

Jackson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Jackson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rio turns into him and now he's in Jackson's guard.
Jackson controls Rio momentarily but Rio frees himself.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Peter Jackson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Rio fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Rio has managed to clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rio tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jackson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jackson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rio avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Peter Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Rio as Jackson shoots in.
Jackson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rio but Rio pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rio is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Jackson tries to land a knee to the head but Rio blocks with his arms.

Rio looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rio wants to sweep but no luck.

Rio looking for subs off his back but Jackson has passed one foot through into half guard.

Jackson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jackson thows a huge punch but Rio dodges it nicely.
Rio is not content to let Jackson control the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rio is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rio is trying to stand up here but Jackson is controlling him well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Peter Jackson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Jackson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rio's guard.
Jackson stands and throws Rio's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rio tries to buck Jackson off but Jackson is having none of it.

Rio is not content to let Jackson control the position.
Rio gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rio wants to control but Jackson is having none of it.

Jackson controlling the position well here. Rio rolled but Jackson kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Jackson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
A lull in the action here.

Rio can't escape the position.
Jackson is landing with strikes from the back.
Rio grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Jackson is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Rio is trapped and Jackson is scoring with shots to the head and body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jackson has the hooks in. Rio is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rio covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Rio wants to get back to his feet.
Jesus Rio has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peter Jackson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Jackson controlling the positon.

I've got Jackson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
