Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tim Askarian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Rodrigo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tim Askarian has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tim Askarian! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jose Rodrigo! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Askarian lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rodrigo's sensitive parts. Askarian throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Askarian throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Askarian lands a jab to the head.
Rodrigo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Askarian. Askarian throws out a leg kick but Rodrigo moves out of range and Askarian only half commits. Askarian slips a jab from Rodrigo. Rodrigo checks a leg kick nicely. Askarian misses with a low kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. A nice inside leg kick there by Askarian. That's going to slow Rodrigo down. Rodrigo throws an overhand right that lands on Askarian's shoulder, as Askarian tries to avoid the shot. Rodrigo tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rodrigo. Tim Askarian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rodrigo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodrigo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Askarian wants to get back to his feet but Rodrigo is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Askarian will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Rodrigo postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Askarian avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Rodrigo looking to sit in guard and control but Askarian gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Askarian has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rodrigo is proving hard to escape from. Askarian has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rodrigo is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rodrigo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Rodrigo throws a strike but Askarian rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Askarian has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rodrigo is proving hard to escape from. Askarian stopping the sweep attempt from Rodrigo. Askarian wants to stand and escape but instead Rodrigo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Rodrigo throws a big elbow that misses.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Rodrigo scoring with some ground and pound. Rodrigo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Rodrigo postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Rodrigo lands a couple of digs. Rodrigo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Rodrigo wants to get up but he can't break Askarian's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Askarian controls Rodrigo momentarily but Rodrigo frees himself. Rodrigo works over Askarian with some ground and pound from guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rodrigo throwing strikes from guard but Askarian blocks nicely. Rodrigo lands a couple of elbows. Rodrigo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Askarian's head.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Askarian avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Rodrigo distracts Askarian with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Rodrigo postures up in Askarian's guard and throws a big left but Askarian blocks it. Rodrigo with a flurry of punches that miss. Rodrigo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Rodrigo stands up over Askarian, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Rodrigo working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Askarian's head.
Askarian is rocked! Rodrigo lands a couple of elbows. Oh Askarian is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Rodrigo with a nice head shot there. Rodrigo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Askarian's guard. Rodrigo lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Askarian quite badly. Askarian pulls Rodrigo in close trying to recover. Rodrigo postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Askarian on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Askarian doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Rodrigo! An out of breath Jose Rodrigo thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
