Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wayne Arthur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Masato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arthur tried to score with a low kick but Masato checks it.

Masato gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Arthur breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Arthur really is a fat lump.

Arthur manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Masato on his heels. He'll look to pass Masato's guard now, I'm sure.
Masato wants to stand and escape but Arthur is having none of it.
Arthur tries to stand but Masato is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Arthur moves into the clinch.

Masato breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Arthur shoots in and drives through. Masato sprawls well.
A head kick from Masato lands but Arthur takes it in his stride.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Arthur enables Masato to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Arthur manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Arthur is looking to stand back up but Masato counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Arthur.

Masato wants to control from the top but Arthur keeps moving.

Masato avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Arthur is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Masato controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Masato postures up.
Masato won't allow Arthur to get back to his feet.
Masato engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kenji Masato hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Arthur avoids the head kick by Masato.

Arthur gets a double leg takedown into Masato's guard.

Arthur is breathing heavily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Masato is pushing down on Arthur's leg trying to pass to half guard. Arthur is fighting to maintain full guard but Masato has managed to sneak the leg through.

That was a close round but I would say that Wayne Arthur will probably get the nod.

Masato buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Masato gets a clinch.

Masato successfully pulls guard.
Arthur is looking to stand up but Masato won't let him.
Masato really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Arthur. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Masato is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Arthur is pressing down on Masato's thigh, looking to free his foot. Masato is holding on for now.

Arthur wants to lay and pray for a moment but Masato keeps working.

Arthur is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Masato is breathing heavily.
Masato will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Masato tries to sprawl but Arthur drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Masato won't allow Arthur to pass to mount.
Arthur is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Masato!

Arthur has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Masato's face.

Masato tries to control Arthur's body but Arthur pushes him off. Masato squirms to his side and now Arthur has his back!

Arthur has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Masato is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Arthur.

Arthur is working for a rear naked choke. Masato is not defending it well and Arthur has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Masato refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Masato's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
