Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kichiro Kaneko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bret McKenzie! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kaneko closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. McKenzie looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kaneko seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McKenzie is trying to get back to full guard. McKenzie trying to control here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McKenzie is trying to stand.
Kaneko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kaneko working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Kaneko lands with a punch from half guard.
It looks like Bret McKenzie has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McKenzie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. McKenzie scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Kaneko manages to mount him!
Kaneko working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Kaneko lands with some strikes.
McKenzie is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. McKenzie really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Kaneko working away from the top, dropping strikes. McKenzie is still in real trouble! Can Kaneko finish him? Kaneko unloads with some vicious shots from mount and McKenzie wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Kaneko celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
