PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I do this. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watson clinches with his opponent.
Watson is looking to take this one to the mat.
Watson has Mason pressed against the cage, preventing Mason from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Watson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mason avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Watson jumps guard but Mason stands there with Watson around his waist. Watson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
James Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Watson.
Mason tries to break the clinch but Watson is controlling the position.
Watson fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Watson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mason, pushing him back against the cage.

Watson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mason avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Horrible takedown by Watson or perhaps it was just good defense by Mason which made him look bad.
Watson tries for a takedown but Mason sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Watson doesn't manage to clinch there - Mason circles away.

Watson moves into the clinch.
Mason is trying to break free.
Mason prevents the takedown attempt.
Mason managing to block the knees to the body from Watson.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Mason.
Watson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mason's efforts to push away.
Watson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mason is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mason breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Mason counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Watson!

Watson has a closed guard, preventing Mason from standing up.
Watson is trying to keep Mason in close.
Mason tries to stand but Watson is controlling from the bottom.

Mason uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Watson.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
It looks like Watson is going to stand back up.

Watson wants to take a breather but Mason is having none of it.

Watson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mason defends it well.

Watson shoots in looking for a takedown but Mason manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Watson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Watson is trying to break the clinch but Mason has him pressed against the cage.
Watson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mason smiles and moves away.

Watson wants to stand but Mason has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Mason regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Watson.
Mason is looking to stand up but Watson isn't so interested in that idea.

Mason is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Watson is controlling him.

Watson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mason is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mason has escaped and now he's on top!
Mason wants to get up but he can't break Watson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Watson wants to get back to his feet but Mason is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Watson looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mason passes into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mason wants to stand but Watson has his arm trapped.
Mason trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ben Watson.
I think Watson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
