Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Henry Simons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcos Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marcos Griffin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry Simons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcos Griffin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simons throws a series of punches but Griffin moves out of range.
Simons throws a jab when Griffin was well out of range.
Nice takedown defense from Griffin. No joy for Simons on that attempt.
Griffin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Simons looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffin is fending him off so far but Simons persists. Nope, Griffin circles away and we're back to standing.
Simons throws a body punch but Griffin moves out of range.
Griffin moves out of range of the body kick from Simons.
Griffin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Simons.
Griffin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Simons stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Simons has managed to clinch.
Griffin lands with a right to the head.

Griffin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Griffin misses with an uppercut.
Simons moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Griffin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Simons swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Simons scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Griffin is trying to stand back up but Simons is controlling him

Simons sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Griffin defending well though.
Simons thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Griffin throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Griffin pushes Simons off looking to stand but Simons dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griffin is trying to control but can't.
Simons prevents Griffin from standing back up.
Simons throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Simons looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffin is fending him off so far but Simons persists. Nope, Griffin circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henry Simons. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Simons tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Griffin paws at him with a jab and circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Griffin lands with a slapping head kick.
Simons shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Griffin pinned against the cage. Griffin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Simons wants to improve his position but Griffin is controlling well.

Griffin stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Simons to get to his feet.
Griffin moves out of range as Simons throws a body kick.

Griffin feints and as Simons raises his hands in defense, Griffin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Simons wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Griffin is now in half guard.
Simons is looking to escape.

Griffin is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Griffin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Simons is trying desperately to improve position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Simons is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Griffin tries to clinch there but Simons circles away.

Simons keeps control of Griffin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Simons escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Simons or perhaps it was just good defense by Griffin which made him look bad.

and Griffin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Griffin is breathing heavily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Simons is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Griffin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Simons is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Griffin keeping moving, preventing Simons from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Simons closes the distance looking to clinch
and Simons takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Simons tries for a takedown but Griffin circles away easily
and Griffin counters with a big head kick but Simons shrugs it off.

Griffin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Simons!
Simons is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Simons is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Griffin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Griffin looking to finish Simons with some ground and pound. This is bad for Simons!
Griffin with shots to the head and body - Simons looks very uncomfortable down there.
Griffin connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Simons wants to control but Griffin is having none of it.

Simons wants to hold on but Griffin pushes him away.
Simons is squirming around, avoiding Griffin's attempts to control the action.

Marcos Griffin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Simons is looking for a sweep. Griffin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Griffin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Simons wants to improve his position but Griffin is controlling well.
Griffin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Griffin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Griffin winds up and cracks Simons with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Griffin gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Griffin decides to take the fight back to the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Simons wants to improve his position but instead Griffin has moved into half guard.
Simons is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Griffin jumps into side control!
Simons tries to bench press Griffin off him but Griffin keeps the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Simons avoids the head kick by Griffin.
Griffin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Griffin fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Simons.
Griffin stuffs the takedown attempt from Simons. Simons gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Simons shoots in but no luck this time.
Henry Simons has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Simons avoids a kick to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marcos Griffin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Griffin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
