PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kukupa Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul comes to the cage accompanied by black power. The crowd seem to be enjoying Thomas's choice of entrance music: a violent reaction. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kukupa Paul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Thomas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paul circles away.
Thomas shoots in for a double leg but Paul sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Thomas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Thomas lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Paul tries to escape but Thomas is in control.
Paul on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Paul tries to get out of the position.
Thomas wants to control but Paul is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Paul is trying to get back to his feet.
Paul is looking to get back to his feet here but Thomas is keeping cool and he's managed to take Paul's back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Paul manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Paul lands with an overhand left.
An inside leg kick lands from Paul.
Paul tries to clinch but Thomas moves out of range.
Thomas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Thomas throws a right and a left that both miss.
Paul cracks Thomas with an open hand slap.
Thomas defending well as Paul loads up on a big left hand.
Paul circles away from the clinch attempt.
Paul throws a series of strikes that have Thomas backpedaling.
Thomas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Paul is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Thomas misses with a kick to the body.
Thomas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kukupa Paul is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Paul tries to clinch there but Thomas circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomas tries to clinch up but Paul circles away and keeps his distance.
Paul throws a right and a left that Thomas avoids nicely.
Thomas tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paul swivels and escapes.
Kukupa Paul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Thomas.
Thomas slips a jab and a cross from Paul.
Paul is breathing heavily.
A head kick misses from Paul.

Thomas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Paul's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thomas advances to half guard.
Thomas is controlling the pace.
Paul is trying to stand up here but Thomas is controlling him well.
Thomas wants to control but Paul is keeping him busy.
Thomas passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Thomas is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Paul can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Paul tries to buck Thomas off but Thomas takes his back!
Paul looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Paul is covering up but some of the strikes from Thomas are getting through and doing damage.
Thomas is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Paul. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Paul is trying to get back to his feet but Thomas has full control of the position and if anything, Paul has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Thomas working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Paul is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Thomas has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Paul taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). James Thomas!
James Thomas took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
