Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Honeywell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cameron Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Honeywell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cameron Powers!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Honeywell as he jumps to the side.
Honeywell swinging wildly here.

Honeywell closes the distance and pushes Powers back into the cage.
Honeywell has Powers pressed against the cage.

Honeywell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Honeywell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Honeywell is looking to take a break and control but Powers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Honeywell decides to stand up, so the ref orders Powers to his feet.
Honeywell keeps the fight on the outside.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Honeywell.

Powers closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Powers is working for an americana but Honeywell has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Powers was thinking about the submission.

Honeywell will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Powers wants to get up but he can't break Honeywell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Honeywell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Honeywell is breathing heavily.
Honeywell looks to clinch
and Powers counters with a one-two to the body.

Powers shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Powers wants to free his trapped foot but Honeywell is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Honeywell is not content to let Powers control the position.

Honeywell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Powers trying to control the action but Honeywell is working from the bottom.

Cameron Powers has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Powers shoots in but Honeywell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Honeywell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Powers was covering up waiting for the punch and Honeywell finishes the takedown easily into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cameron Powers will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Honeywell shoots in looking for a takedown. Powers tries to sprawl out of it but Honeywell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Powers manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Honeywell is looking to clinch but Powers is avoiding it.

Honeywell tries for a takedown but Powers sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Honeywell wants to clinch up but Powers keeps it at a distance.

Powers shoots in for a takedown but Honeywell shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Powers shoots in looking for a takedown but Honeywell manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Powers's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Powers jumps guard but Honeywell stands there with Powers around his waist. Powers gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Honeywell shoots for a takedown but Powers saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Powers scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Honeywell gets tackled into the cage by Powers. Powers maintains the clinch.
Honeywell wants a takedown.

Powers has picked Honeywell up - he's going for a ride! Powers dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Honeywell is trying to maintain the position but Powers is very close to passing his half guard.
Honeywell holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Honeywell tries to get to full guard but Powers has control of the leg.
Powers slows the pace down in half guard.
Powers wants to pass to mount but Honeywell is defending the position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from Honeywell. No joy for Powers on that attempt.

Cameron Powers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Powers stands and steps away. Honeywell gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Powers bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Honeywell postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Honeywell misses with the ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Honeywell working away.

Honeywell goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Powers rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Honeywell's guard! Nice work there by Powers!

Cameron Powers has got the better of the ground game so far.
Powers working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Honeywell's head.
Honeywell has control of Powers's left arm, preventing Powers from doing any damage.

Powers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Honeywell counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Honeywell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Powers has him pressed against the cage.
Honeywell can't find room to land a body shot as Powers controls the action.

Powers keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Honeywell's efforts to push away.
Powers has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Powers tries to circle away but Honeywell has him pinned against the cage.

Powers pulls guard effortlessly.

Honeywell trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.
Honeywell lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Powers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Honeywell gets to his feet - Powers follows without any prompting.

Honeywell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Honeywell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Powers is not content to let Honeywell control the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Honeywell is trying to get an arm triangle but Powers is defending well.

Cameron Powers is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimmy Honeywell.
I think Powers has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
