Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rei Ayanami! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kang Sheng! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Ayanami does no damage. Ayanami fails with a takedown attempt. Ayanami fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sheng avoids it really well and circles away. Sheng takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Ayanami tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sheng sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ayanami somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rei Ayanami. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ayanami shoots in and drives through. Sheng sprawls well. Ayanami swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sheng keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Ayanami is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Ayanami fails with a takedown attempt. Ayanami misses with a two punch combination.
Sheng lands a jab-cross combination. Sheng dodges the punch combination from Ayanami.
Ayanami is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sheng keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Sheng displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ayanami. Ayanami looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sheng is fending him off so far but Ayanami persists. Nope, Sheng circles away and we're back to standing. Nice takedown defense from Sheng. No joy for Ayanami on that attempt. Sheng lands a nice looking body shot.
Ayanami shoots in but no luck this time. A cross from Sheng lands.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ayanami has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ayanami there as he acknowledges the shot. Sheng cracks Ayanami with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Ayanami looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Sheng finish him?
Ayanami is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sheng gets a clinch. Oh Ayanami is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Sheng lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Ayanami to his knees! Sheng keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kang Sheng! A relieved looking Kang Sheng thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
