Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
13 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Evangelista Nunes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Emiliano Vega!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vega feints and then cracks Nunes's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Nunes down.
Nunes tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Vega lands a two punch combo.
Nunes throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Vega checks a low kick from Nunes.
Nunes cracks Vega with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Vega on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Nunes throws a left and a right that both miss
and Vega counters with a nice leg kick.
Evangelista Nunes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nunes finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Nunes misses the shot to the body.
Vega moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Vega takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Vega fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Nunes looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Nunes moves in looking to clinch but Vega pushes him off.
Nunes throws a leg kick but Vega sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Nunes wants to land a leg kick but Vega is out of range.
Vega fails to land with a series of punches.
Vega lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Vega throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Nunes's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Vega dives in looking to finish as Nunes flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Vega's strikes! Vega is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Nunes's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Nunes was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Emiliano Vega!
