Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Tompkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Cadge! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cadge scores with the left hand. Tompkins knows he should have avoided that one. A momentary lapse in concentration from Cadge enables Tompkins to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cadge manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Tompkins throwing strikes but missing. This has been an exciting period of action! Cadge has Tompkins pulled in close to control his posture. Cadge avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Cadge wants to sweep here but Tompkins controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tompkins with a nice head shot there. Cadge is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Tompkins is looking to work some ground and pound but Cadge has wrist control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Cadge is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cadge has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Nathan Cadge wasn't active enough on the ground. Tompkins will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tompkins tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Cadge swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Tompkins. No luck with that takedown attempt from Cadge. Tompkins scores with a one two! Cadge had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Cadge connects with a crisp jab. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cadge takes one to the side of the head.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Tompkins! Cadge is backing up but he can't get away as Tompkins lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Cadge and ends the fight. Great knockout.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Steve Tompkins! Steve Tompkins gave a mention to Black Hand Alliance Only Laundry Service in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
