Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bill Withers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cappa Champ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bill Withers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cappa Champ!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Champ fails with a takedown attempt.

Champ instigates a clinch.
Champ changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Withers fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Withers gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Withers pulls guard successfully.
Withers on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Withers tries to get out of the position.
Champ trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Champ stands up and waves to Withers to follow him.

Withers drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Champ working for submissions but it's allowed Withers to get to half guard.
Withers is looking to advance position but Champ won't allow it.

Champ tries to roll over but Withers keeps him under control.
Champ is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Withers tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Champ.
Withers looks to land a strike but Champ avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Withers wants to control from the top but Champ keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Withers stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Withers throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Champ.
Champ is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Withers is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Withers keeping moving, preventing Champ from controlling successfully.
Withers keeping busy, throwing shots from the bottom.

Champ would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Champ with a flurry of punches that miss.

Champ decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Withers, up you get!

Withers fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Champ, pushing him back against the cage.
Champ is working for takedown but Withers is calmly controlling the position for now.
Withers lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Cappa Champ has been cut.
Champ tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Withers just stands there and leans against the cage.
Champ drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Withers gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Withers manages to break the clinch.

Withers moves into the clinch.
Withers prevents the takedown attempt.
Withers gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Champ.
Withers's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Withers has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Champ is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Champ is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Withers pulls him back up using the underhooks.

and Withers counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Withers stalling.
Champ moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Champ working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Withers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Withers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Champ has his foot on Withers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Withers works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Withers swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Withers counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Champ!
Champ has given up his back here. Will Withers look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Champ breaks Withers's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Champ drops back looking for a leg! Withers is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Withers manages to kick Champ off! Champ jumps back into Withers's guard.

Champ slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Bill Withers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Withers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Withers has managed to clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Champ tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Withers just stands there and leans against the cage.

and Withers decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Champ's guard.

Withers stands and steps away. Champ gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Champ trying to keep a closed guard but Withers is proving a slippery customer.
Withers might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Champ had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Withers is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Champ Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Withers's back instead.

Champ prevents Withers from getting the reversal.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Withers wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Withers is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Withers is looking to get to half guard.
Withers is working hard here to advance position.
Withers tries to hold on but Champ postures up.
Withers is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Champ is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Champ has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Withers is working away from the top position though.

Champ makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Champ takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Champ wants to get up but he can't break Withers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Champ drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Champ jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Champ works his foot free and advances to mount.
Champ lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cappa Champ has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Withers has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
