Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robert Fernan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saku Katsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Robert Fernan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Robert Fernan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
16 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Robert Fernan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Saku Katsumoto!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katsumoto is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Fernan.
Katsumoto pivots, looking for a leg kick but Fernan is out of range and Katsumoto settles back down.
Fernan goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Katsumoto shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fernan as he jumps to the side.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Fernan.
Fernan moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Katsumoto throws a sloppy head kick and Fernan moves out of range easily.

and Fernan counters with a nice leg kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fight stays on the outside here - Katsumoto looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Katsumoto throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Katsumoto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fernan scores with a kick to the body.
Fernan avoids the head kick by Katsumoto.
Fernan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Katsumoto moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Katsumoto throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fernan's waist but Fernan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Katsumoto off to one side.
Katsumoto looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Robert Fernan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saku Katsumoto.

Fernan lands a slapping body shot.

Fernan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Katsumoto sprawls well initially but Fernan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Katsumoto wants to improve his position but Fernan is controlling well.

Fernan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Katsumoto on his heels. He'll look to pass Katsumoto's guard now, I'm sure.

Katsumoto is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fernan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fernan's back!

Fernan stands up over Katsumoto, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Katsumoto has his foot on Fernan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fernan works his way back into a safe position though.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fernan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Katsumoto is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fernan distracts Katsumoto with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Robert Fernan dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Fernan pushes Katsumoto up against the cage in a clinch.

Fernan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Katsumoto swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fernan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Katsumoto with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Fernan winds up and cracks Katsumoto with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Fernan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Fernan scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fernan is posturing up here but Katsumoto has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Fernan tries to roll out but it's too tight and Fernan has to tap! Slick submission there by Katsumoto!
