Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Franco Collumbo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andrew Roberts! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Collumbo closes the distance looking to clinch and Roberts moves into the clinch. Roberts jumps into guard, dragging Collumbo to the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Collumbo stops Roberts from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roberts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Collumbo manages to get himself to full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Collumbo wants to stand up but Roberts is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roberts wants to pass the guard but Collumbo is keeping the position. Collumbo wants to get back to his feet but Roberts is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Roberts stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Collumbo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Roberts stops Collumbo from standing up. Roberts looking to pass the guard. Roberts sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Collumbo's guard. Roberts trying to mount his opponent but Collumbo defends it. Roberts works his foot free and advances to mount. Roberts throws some wild stikes that Collumbo manages to avoid easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roberts misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Collumbo trying desperately to get to his feet.
Roberts throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Collumbo because Roberts loaded up on that one. Roberts looking to secure an arm triangle but Collumbo defends it well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Roberts quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Roberts but it's paid off an Collumbo is forced to tap! Nice work by Roberts.
