The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carreri shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Carreri was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Peters looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Carreri trying to control the position but Peters is working away. The ground and pound from Carreri seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Carreri wants to lay and pray for a moment but Peters keeps working. Carreri in side control, just content to control the action for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sean Carreri wasn't active enough on the ground. Carreri will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Carreri scores with a takedown into Peters's guard. Carreri looking to sit in guard and control but Peters gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Carreri had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Peters defends it easily. Carreri controls Peters momentarily but Peters frees himself.

Peters wants to control from the top but Carreri keeps moving. Carreri is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carreri is looking to clinch but Peters is avoiding it.
Carreri should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Peters slaps away a takedown attempt from Carreri, before circling back to the center of the mat. A punch combination from Peters misses. Carreri throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Peters was covering up waiting for the punch and Carreri finishes the takedown easily into guard. Carreri scoring with some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carreri stops Peters from standing up. Carreri throwing strikes from guard but Peters blocks nicely. Carreri trying to control but Peters is working from the bottom. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Sean Carreri was stalling too much, according to the referee. Carreri fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Peters sprawls well initially but Carreri persists and gets the takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Carreri thows a huge punch but Peters dodges it nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carreri wants to stand up but Peters is controlling the position.
Carreri is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Peters doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Carreri. Carreri is trying to control the action in half guard but Peters is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Carreri slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sean Carreri. Peters lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

No joy there for Peters, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

James Peters has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Carreri moves into the clinch. Carreri wants the takedown. Peters is fighting it off but Carreri persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Peters's guard against the cage. Carreri looking to sit in guard and control but Peters gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Well,Peters is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes? The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Peters accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Carreri wants to improve his position but instead Peters has moved into half guard.
Carreri actively working from the bottom here. Carreri tries to get to full guard but Peters has control of the leg. Peters is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carreri is just riding it out for now. Peters eventually gives up the hold. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The fighters are battling for position here. Carreri manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
