Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wayne Pearson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Evgeniy Rakov! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rakov closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
It looks like Evgeniy Rakov has been cut. Rakov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pearson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rakov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Pearson misses with a straight left. A telegraphed right hand from Pearson misses the target. Pearson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pearson wants it to stay on the feet. Pearson misses with a series of wild punches.
Rakov slips a jab from Pearson. Rakov slips a jab from Pearson. A swing and a miss from Pearson. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rakov. Wayne Pearson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evgeniy Rakov. Rakov takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rakov showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Pearson.
Pearson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rakov gets in close and instigates a clinch. Rakov breaks from the clinch.
Rakov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rakov shoots in looking for a takedown but Pearson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rakov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Rakov closes the distance and clinches. Pearson doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Rakov misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Pearson misses with a punch on the inside.
Rakov is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Rakov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Pearson connects with a crisp jab. Pearson digs a good body shot into Rakov's ribs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rakov slips under a jab. Pearson lands a nice hook to Rakov's body. Rakov takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Pearson batters Rakov with a massive right followed by a huge left! Rakov is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Pearson lands a final crushing right hand to drop Rakov to the mat with a gruesome thud! Pearson is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
