Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blake Slate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erwin Santan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Slate pinned against the cage. Slate gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Santan takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

It looks like Erwin Santan has been cut.
Santan looks for a takedown but Slate sprawls well.
Santan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Santan has eaten all the pies!

Slate has picked Santan up - he's going for a ride! Slate dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Blake Slate has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Santan avoids the head kick by Slate.

Santan has Slate pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Slate manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Slate tightens his grip and picks Santan up, before dumping him to the ground. Santan manages to land in guard.

Santan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Slate lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Slate.

Santan is trying to drag Slate to the mat but Slate just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Santan has momentary wrist control but Slate slips an elbow through the middle.
Santan wants to stand and escape but Slate is having none of it.
Slate stays in close to Santan's body and controls the position.

Slate drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Slate jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Santan wants to stand up but Slate is controlling him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Santan is wriggling around but Slate manages to pass to half guard.

Slate is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santan is just riding it out for now. Slate eventually gives up the hold.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Slate leaves Santan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Santan shoots in but no luck this time.
Slate misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slate works Santan's body with a nice hook.
Blake Slate is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Slate cracks Santan with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Slate has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Santan to stand back up!

Santan is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Slate looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Slate backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Santan's temple! It sends Santan violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Slate celebrates and the doctors try to help Santan!
