6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karl Pope! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Kowalski! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalski gets off balance looking for a body kick and Pope counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Pope tries to clinch but Kowalski moves out of range. Kowalski with a hook. Pope takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
It looks like Karl Pope has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kowalski closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pope quickly recovers to half guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Pope wants to improve his position but Kowalski is controlling well.
Kowalski seems to be working for a kimura but Pope defends the submission attempt. Pope keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Pope is trying to get back to full guard. Pope defending against the ground and pound. Kowalski takes a little break here. Pope wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. An elbow from Kowalski crashes against the mat.

The ground and pound from Kowalski seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Kowalski thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Pope is looking to regain half guard here but Kowalski keeps moving and retains side control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kowalski working the strikes but Pope uses the opportunity to regain half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roman Kowalski dominated that round. The cut man is working on Karl Pope's cut. That's time! Pope's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Kowalski misses with an uppercut. Pope saw that one coming. Sloppy strikes from Kowalski. Those never looked like landing. Good exchange - Kowalski coming out on top. Kowalski throws a head kick that misses. Roman Kowalski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A decent looking cross lands there for Kowalski. Pope scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. An inside leg kick lands from Pope. Pope moves forwards but Kowalski connects with a nice, crisp jab. This has been an exciting period of action! Kowalski has his takedown stuffed and Pope counters with a nice body kick. Kowalski tries to land a front kick but Pope steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Kowalski cracks Pope with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Kowalski tries for a takedown but Pope sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Pope tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kowalski swats him away and circles back towards the center. Kowalski shoots for a double leg takedown but Pope sprawls well. He's pushed Kowalski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Karl Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Kowalski. Kowalski is breathing heavily. Kowalski misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round. Pope buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Pope connects with a crisp jab. A decent looking cross lands there for Pope. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kowalski takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Kowalski has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Pope throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pope drops Kowalski with a left right combo! Pope follows him down to the ground into side control.
Kowalski is rocked! Kowalski is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Pope throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Pope advances to full mount. Kowalski is looking to improve his position but Pope isn't that keen on the idea. Roman Kowalski has got the better of the ground game so far. Poor strikes thrown by Pope there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Pope looking to ground and pound but Kowalski is blocking nicely. Pope is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kowalski can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Pope throws some wild stikes that Kowalski manages to avoid easily.

Pope utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kowalski throwing strikes but missing. Kowalski throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pope works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pope is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kowalski defends well. Pope working a defensive guard here.

Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Kowalski on a fantastic submission victory.

Roman Kowalski decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
