Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karl Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kowalski has chosen Reptile Theme as his entrance music. Roman Kowalski acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Kowalski!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalski gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Pope counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Pope tries to clinch but Kowalski moves out of range.

Pope takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.


It looks like Karl Pope has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kowalski closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pope quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This has been an exciting period of action!

and Pope counters with a nice body kick.
Kowalski tries to land a front kick but Pope steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kowalski cracks Pope with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Pope tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kowalski swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kowalski shoots for a double leg takedown but Pope sprawls well. He's pushed Kowalski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Karl Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Kowalski.
Kowalski is breathing heavily.
Kowalski misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Pope lands a nice looking body shot.

Pope buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Pope connects with a crisp jab.
A decent looking cross lands there for Pope.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kowalski takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kowalski has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Pope throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Pope drops Kowalski with a left right combo! Pope follows him down to the ground into side control.

Pope throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Pope advances to full mount.
Kowalski is looking to improve his position but Pope isn't that keen on the idea.
Roman Kowalski has got the better of the ground game so far.
Poor strikes thrown by Pope there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Pope is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kowalski can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Pope throws some wild stikes that Kowalski manages to avoid easily.

Pope thows a huge punch but Kowalski dodges it nicely.
Pope knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kowalski on the ground.

Pope is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kowalski defends well.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pope is on top in guard.

Roman Kowalski decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
