Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Torrio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gunthor Xiilianiatoph! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Torrio closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Torrio lands in his opponent's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Torrio slips nicely into half guard. Torrio perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Xiilianiatoph is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Torrio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Xiilianiatoph keeps working. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Torrio looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Xiilianiatoph pushes Torrio off looking to stand but Torrio dives back in and keeps control.
Torrio is trying to control. Xiilianiatoph wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Torrio is looking for a kimura here.
Xiilianiatoph is trying to stand.
Torrio seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Torrio is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Xiilianiatoph doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Torrio. Torrio content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Torrio wants to pass the guard but Xiilianiatoph is defending well. Torrio is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Torrio is looking to take a break and control but Xiilianiatoph is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Torrio is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Torrio prevents Xiilianiatoph from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Xiilianiatoph sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Xiilianiatoph looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Torrio with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Xiilianiatoph looking for submissions off his back. Xiilianiatoph is looking to improve his position.
Torrio is trying for a kimura here. Xiilianiatoph looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Torrio wins by kimura!
