Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thor Omega!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
25 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joulu Pukki!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pukki tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Omega paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Joulu Pukki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Omega throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pukki thows a body shot but no joy.
Jab, jab by Pukki - just one landing.
Omega tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Pukki is able to avoid easily.
Omega misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pukki.
Omega pushes Pukki away with a front kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Pukki.
Pukki throws a leg kick that is checked
and Omega counters with a body kick that stops Pukki in his tracks momentarily.
Good leg kick by Omega there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Omega pivots, looking for a leg kick but Pukki is out of range and Omega settles back down.
Pukki shoots in for a takedown but Omega shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pukki takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
It looks like Joulu Pukki has been cut.
Pukki motions for Omega to come forward. Pukki throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A cross from Omega lands.
Omega drops Pukki with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Pukki looks back up at him and smiles so Omega waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Pukki is rocked!
Pukki throws out a leg kick but Omega moves out of range and Pukki only half commits.
Pukki is still on wobbly legs! Can Omega finish him?
A head kick by Pukki misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Pukki looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Pukki fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pukki seems to have recovered his senses.
Pukki throws a sloppy head kick and Omega moves out of range easily.
Pukki gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Omega gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Thor Omega!
