Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kirk Lazarus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelio Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lazarus comes into the arena with Last Resort blaring out of the sound system. Marcelio Garcia is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kirk Lazarus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcelio Garcia! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Garcia drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Garcia throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Garcia has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Lazarus! Garcia controlling the pace for now. Garcia with a couple of short strikes. Garcia can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lazarus is looking to escape. Lazarus really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lazarus slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Garcia thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Garcia thows a huge punch but Lazarus dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Garcia stalling away here and it's allowed Lazarus to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Garcia is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Lazarus wants to sweep here but Garcia controlling him for the moment. Lazarus is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Garcia postures up in Lazarus's guard and throws a big left but Lazarus blocks it. Garcia trying to control but Lazarus is working from the bottom.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Nice jab there from Lazarus. Garcia takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Garcia throws a sloppy head kick and Lazarus moves out of range easily. Garcia throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. This has been an exciting period of action! Lazarus fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Garcia throws an off balance right hand
and Lazarus counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Garcia avoids the head kick by Lazarus.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lazarus lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Lazarus gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Lazarus is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Garcia can't fight it off and eventually Lazarus manages to take the fight to the floor. Garcia looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Lazarus pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Garcia is keeping the position for now. Garcia had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lazarus defends it easily. Lazarus trying to control but Garcia is working from the bottom. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Garcia throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Garcia misses with a head shot. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Garcia sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Poor strikes thrown by Garcia there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

A close round but Marcelio Garcia will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Lazarus works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Horrible takedown by Lazarus or perhaps it was just good defense by Garcia which made him look bad. Garcia avoids a punch combination nicely.
Garcia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lazarus manages to avoid it. Nice shot by Lazarus. Lazarus fails in his attempt to clinch. Lazarus stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Garcia takes a shot right to the bread basket. Lazarus shoots in and drives through. Garcia sprawls well. Lazarus scores with a jab to the jaw. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Garcia throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lazarus's waist but Lazarus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Garcia off to one side. Garcia throws an overhand right that lands on Lazarus's shoulder, as Lazarus tries to avoid the shot. Lazarus lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Garcia at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lazarus throws a series of punches but Garcia moves out of range. Lazarus shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Garcia eats them both and turns towards Lazarus to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Lazarus misses with a takedown and Garcia counters with a single leg into guard. Lazarus didn't expect that. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kirk Lazarus. That's going to take a lot out of him. Garcia controlling from the top position. Lazarus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Garcia wants to control from the top but Lazarus keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Garcia working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lazarus's head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Garcia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Lazarus manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Garcia looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Lazarus trying to control the position from guard on top but Garcia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lazarus throwing strikes from guard but Garcia blocks nicely. Garcia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lazarus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Garcia looking for a sweep. Not yet Garcia, not yet. Lazarus has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Lazarus trying to control but Garcia is working from the bottom. Lazarus engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Lazarus keeping moving, preventing Garcia from controlling successfully. Lazarus is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Garcia throwing strikes from guard but Lazarus blocks nicely. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Lazarus working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Garcia. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lazarus tries for a takedown but Garcia circles away easily and Garcia counters with a takedown into side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Lazarus is looking to reverse the position. Lazarus being controlled for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garcia is trying to ground and pound but Lazarus uses the momentary lack of control by Garcia to regain half guard. Well, if Garcia is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Kirk Lazarus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcelio Garcia. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lazarus throws a leg kick but Garcia sees it coming and moves out of range.
