PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Smith!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Johnson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Smith wants to clinch.

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that.
John Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Smith.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Smith misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.

Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Smith is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Johnson asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Johnson scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Smith to see if he's OK.

Smith is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Johnson is controlling him well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
