PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gorge Jurgel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Sieve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jurgel comes into the arena with Rock N Roll Train blaring out of the sound system. Jurgel has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gorge Jurgel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Sieve!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sieve gets a double leg takedown into Jurgel's guard.
Jurgel is breathing heavily.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Jurgel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Sieve trying to control but Jurgel is working from the bottom.

Sieve drops back looking for a leg! Jurgel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jurgel manages to kick Sieve off! Sieve jumps back into Jurgel's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jurgel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sieve distracts Jurgel with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Sieve stands and throws Jurgel's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sieve trying to control the action but Jurgel is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sieve lands a decent elbow from side control.
Sieve with the ground and pound but Jurgel regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Sieve throwing shots but Jurgel is blocking nicely.
Sieve wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jurgel keeps working.
Sieve controlling the pace.
Jurgel keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sieve trying to control the pace.
Jurgel is refusing to be controlled, as Sieve sits in half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cody Sieve hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Sieve closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jurgel to the mat! Jurgel manages to get full guard.
Sieve trying to control the position from guard on top but Jurgel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sieve in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jurgel keeping moving, preventing Sieve from controlling successfully.
Sieve passes Jurgel's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sieve with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Jurgel is staying active underneath Sieve, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sieve not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sieve content to control rather than advance.

Sieve looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sieve is looking for a kimura but Jurgel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sieve to get the leverage.
Sieve is trying to control. Jurgel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Jurgel has hold of Sieve's hands but Sieve slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sieve is trying to control the action in half guard but Jurgel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sieve might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jurgel haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Sieve wants to pass the guard but Jurgel is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Sieve dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Sieve bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sieve staying calm.
Sieve lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sieve in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Jurgel is not content to let Sieve control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sieve trying to control the action but Jurgel is working from the bottom.
Sieve advances to full mount.
Sieve throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Sieve with a couple of short strikes.
Sieve is landing with some decent strikes but Jurgel is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Sieve connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Jurgel is squirming around, avoiding Sieve's attempts to control the action.

Sieve has control of Jurgel's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jurgel regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Sieve scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Cody Sieve has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jurgel is in a horrible position here. Sieve smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Sieve unloads with some shots from mount but Jurgel bucks and avoids them well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sieve lands a big elbow.
BOOM! Sieve connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Sieve trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Sieve lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Jurgel taking shots to the head.
Sieve is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jurgel can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


Jurgel is rocked!
Sieve postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Jurgel badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Sieve around the waist but Sieve pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Sieve is the winner by TKO! Sieve jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cody Sieve!
Cody Sieve spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
