PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hayate Akio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akio comes to the ring accompanied by Symphony of Swords. Evans has chosen "A Country Boy Can Survive" by Hank Williams Jr. as his entrance music. The key to victory for Hayate Akio has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hayate Akio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Freddy Evans!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akio with a jab.
Evans walks into a stiff left hand from Akio.


Evans is rocked!
Akio drops Evans with a right and a left! Akio comes rushing in but Evans regains his composure and manages to keep Akio in guard.
Evans is still in real trouble! Can Akio finish him?
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Akio postures up in Evans's guard and throws a big left but Evans blocks it.
Evans throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Evans throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Akio pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Evans is keeping the position for now.
Evans wants to sweep here but Akio controlling him for the moment.
Akio passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Evans seems to have recovered his senses.
Akio trying to control the position but Evans is working away.
Akio scoring with punches from side control.
The strikes coming from Akio are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Evans manages to work his way to half guard, despite Akio's best efforts.
Evans is looking for a sweep. Akio is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Akio is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Well, if Akio is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Akio is looking for a kimura here.
Akio is breathing heavily.
Evans misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Evans is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Evans is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Akio pulls his head out easily.
Evans is looking to improve his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Akio lands a glancing blow to the side of Evans's head.
Hayate Akio is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Evans bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Evans wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Akio, who protects the arm well.
Akio wants to control but Evans postures up.
Akio is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Evans goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Akio has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Evans but great work by Akio.
Akio wants to stand but Evans is controlling his arm.
Evans sneaks back into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Evans manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Evans had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Akio is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Evans Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Akio's back instead.
Akio looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Evans is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Akio is defending well though. Evans let's go of the attempt for now.
Akio trying to control the action but Evans just sinks the hooks in.
Akio turns into Evans and is now in his guard.
Evans lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Akio!

Evans is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Akio can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Evans moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Akio has worked his arm free - good work by Akio!
Akio sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Evans works his way into side control.
Akio is looking to regain half guard here but Evans keeps moving and retains side control.

Evans thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Evans tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Evans working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Freddy Evans will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Akio looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Evans uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Akio.
Akio thuds a left hand into Evans's body.
A left lands for Akio.
Akio lands with a cross.
Akio fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Evans manages to avoid it.
Akio misses with a looping right.
Akio misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Evans rushes Akio and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Evans tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Akio's elbow.
Akio wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Evans prevents Akio from breaking the clinch.
Evans wants a takedown.
Evans trying to stall but Akio improves his position.

Akio breaks from the clinch.
Akio throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Evans sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Akio cracks Evans with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Akio misses with a few strikes there.
Akio throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Evans stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Akio throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Evans drives through and clinches with Akio against the ropes.
Akio wants to get back to striking at distance but Evans won't allow it.
Akio misses with the head strike.

Evans manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Evans throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Evans is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Evans moves into full mount! Akio won't be happy about that!

Akio has left one of his arms exposed and Evans doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Akio screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Freddy Evans!
