The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connell shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Martinez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Martinez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Connell trying to hold on to Martinez's head to control him but Martinez postures up.
Martinez is taking a breather. Connell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Martinez wants to pass the guard but Connell is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martinez is looking to take a break and control but Connell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
