The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Smith avoids the body shot from Herman.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Herman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Herman lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Smith gets a takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Smith stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Herman.

Herman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Herman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.
Herman attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Herman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Herman lands a left and a right that send Smith crashing to the mat, dazed. Herman thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Herman cracks Smith on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Smith falls backwards against the ropes. Herman follows up with more strikes that drop Smith to his knees. Herman keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Smith! This one is all over!
