PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ongka Ongka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ongka Ongka told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Banner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ongka Ongka!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banner checks a leg kick.
Ongka throws a low kick, looking for Banner's leg but Banner calmly moves out of range.
Banner fails with the takedown.

Ongka shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Banner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ongka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Banner wants to sweep but no luck.
Ongka sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Banner's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like Ongka is going to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ongka is pressing down on Banner's thigh, looking to free his foot. Banner is holding on for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ongka is trying to control. Banner wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Banner trying to control but Ongka postures up.

Ongka seems to be working for a kimura but Banner defends the submission attempt.
Banner moves into full guard.
Ongka trying to move into half guard but instead Banner has managed to sweep!
Ongka lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Banner!
Ongka looking to finish with strikes here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Banner is trying to escape the mount.
Ongka tries to control but Banner wriggling away.
Banner tries to reverse the position but Ongka maintains control.

Ongka is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Banner to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Banner shrugs it off.
Banner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ongka controlling his opponent.
Ongka looking to control but Banner is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ongka looking to secure an arm triangle but Banner defends it well.
Ongka looks winded!
Banner tries to reverse the position but Ongka maintains control.
Ongka looking to control but Banner is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Banner tries to hold on but Ongka pushes him away.
Banner is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Banner is controlling an arm, preventing Ongka from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Ongka avoids the attempt from Banner to control.
Ongka misses with a head shot.
Ongka can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Banner is looking to escape.
Banner wants to hold on but Ongka pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ongka throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Banner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Banner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ongka Ongka dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Banner gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Banner is trying to control the position but Ongka postures up.
Ongka pushes down on Banner's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Ongka prevents Banner from standing back up.

Banner is defending against the submission attempts here by Ongka.
Ongka not doing much here.
Banner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Banner manages to get to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Banner trying to keep a closed guard but Ongka is proving a slippery customer.
Banner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ongka passes Banner's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ongka Ongka has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ongka seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Banner is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ongka Ongka!
Ongka Ongka spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
