Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marcos Duarte! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andy Wilkins! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilkins throws a lazy right hand but Duarte sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Andy Wilkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wilkins moves out of range as Duarte strikes. Nice shot by Wilkins. Wilkins connects with a jab. Duarte takes a swing at Wilkins's ribcage but misses. The fight stays on the outside here - Duarte looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Wilkins lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Duarte scores with a nice strike. Duarte looks to land a right hand but Wilkins moved out of range. Wilkins connects with the punch. Wilkins lands a jab to Duarte's midsection. Wilkins swings for the body but Duarte moves out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wilkins needs to keep his hands up - Duarte had a free shot at his head there. Wilkins lands an overhand right. Duarte rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Wilkins counters with a straight right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duarte lands a really nice looking cross but Wilkins seems unphased.
Duarte decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Duarte is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Duarte wants to take a breather but Wilkins is having none of it. Duarte controlling the action here. Duarte is trying to control the action in half guard but Wilkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Duarte prevents Wilkins from improving his position. Wilkins is trying to control but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilkins actively working from the bottom here. Wilkins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Wilkins is not content to let Duarte control the position. Wilkins regains full guard. Nicely done. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Duarte trying to control but Wilkins is working from the bottom. Wilkins is looking for a triangle but Duarte pushes his legs off easily.
Duarte wants to control from the top but Wilkins keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duarte missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Duarte wants to control from the top but Wilkins keeps moving. Duarte loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Duarte throwing strikes from guard but Wilkins blocks nicely. Duarte trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wilkins is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wilkins is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Duarte rolls with it to try and escape but Wilkins cranks on the arm and Duarte is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
