PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mano Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stevens comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Can't Hold Us kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Victor Stevens will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mano Soares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Victor Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Mano Soares has been cut.
Soares connects with a right hand. Stevens shakes it off.
Soares throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stevens fails with a takedown attempt.

Stevens lands a high kick to the side of Soares's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Stevens dives into guard, looking to finish.


Soares is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Stevens passes into half guard.
Oh Soares is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Soares looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stevens wants to stand but Soares has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Soares is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Stevens pulls his head out easily.

Stevens gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Stevens jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Stevens scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Soares displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stevens.
Stevens fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Soares throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Oh, that's a big right hand from Stevens and Soares goes tumbling to the canvas! Stevens follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stevens moves into full mount! Soares won't be happy about that!
Stevens misses with a head shot.
Soares is desperately trying to improve his position but Stevens has a good base and remains in mount.
Stevens takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stevens is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stevens stands up from mount. Strange move.
Soares on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Soares gets cracked there but stands up to it.


Mano Soares's cut is getting worse.
Stevens uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Soares has time to react.

Stevens moves into the clinch.

Stevens pulls Soares into guard.
Soares missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Stevens pulls Soares in close to prevent any damage.
Soares pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stevens is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stevens is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Victor Stevens.

Stevens catches Soares napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Soares to the canvas!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stevens trying to stand up but can't free himself from Soares's guard.
Stevens slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Soares is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stevens defends well.
Stevens pushes down on Soares's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Stevens is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Stevens wants to pass to mount but Soares is defending the position.
Stevens wants to get back to his feet.

Soares with the active half guard here but Stevens passes nicely into side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Soares is not content to let Stevens control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Victor Stevens dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mano Soares's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Stevens scores with a jab.
Stevens moves into range and connects with a jab.

Stevens moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! Soares goes down! Can Stevens finish him!?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Soares has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Stevens is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Soares.

Stevens stands up and beckons Soares to his feet.

Stevens clinches with his opponent.
Stevens has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Stevens pulls Soares into guard.

Soares is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stevens is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stevens has escaped and now he's on top!

Stevens stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Stevens connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.


Mano Soares's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Stevens clinches with his opponent.
Soares tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stevens smiles and moves away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Stevens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Stevens darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Soares is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Stevens pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stevens sitting and controlling from the half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stevens trying to pass the guard but Soares defending well.
Stevens wants to get back to his feet.
Stevens is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Victor Stevens wasn't active enough on the ground.

A head kick lands from Stevens that sends Soares to the canvas. Soares tries to scramble back to his feet but Stevens brings him back down into side control.
Soares tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stevens tries to stand but Soares is controlling his head.

Stevens decides to stand back up.
Whack! Stevens lands a heavy head kick that drops Soares. The ref tackles Stevens to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Soares was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Victor Stevens!
After winning the bout, Victor Stevens thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
