PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rob Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by My Buddy. The key to victory for Rob Diaz has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rob Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lucas Jones!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage.

Jones jumps guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jones is adopting a defensive guard.

Diaz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Lucas Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jones.
No joy there for Diaz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Jones throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Diaz was covering up waiting for the punch and Jones finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Diaz has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz wants to hit a switch here but Jones passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Diaz there!

Diaz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones is taking a breather. Diaz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Jones is looking to advance position but Diaz won't allow it.

It looks like Jones is going to stand back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Lucas Jones.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Diaz.
Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jones gets underhooks to prevent Diaz's takedown attempt.
Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jones no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Diaz is controlling him.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

Diaz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Diaz is looking to regain half guard here but Jones keeps moving and retains side control.

Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Diaz is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jones off and has taken his back!

Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diaz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diaz's back!

That was a close second round but I would say that Rob Diaz will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
