Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Curtis Anderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Henderson! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henderson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Henderson slaps away a takedown attempt from Anderson, before circling back to the center of the mat. Henderson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Anderson circles away quickly and effectively. Henderson keeps the fight on the outside. Anderson scores with a spinning back kick! Anderson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Henderson. Henderson stuffs the takedown attempt from Anderson. Anderson gets slowly back to his feet. Henderson looks to land a left hand but Anderson moved out of range nicely. Henderson slips a straight right by Anderson. Dan Henderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Henderson scores with a nice head shot.
It looks like Curtis Anderson has been cut. Anderson shoots in and gets a takedown into Henderson's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Anderson trying to control but Henderson is working from the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Henderson can do anything to dispel that myth. Henderson has a closed guard, preventing Anderson from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anderson is fighting to break Henderson's control of his arms but Henderson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Anderson wants to stand but Henderson is controlling his posture from full guard. Anderson throws a big right hand that misses. Henderson is adopting a defensive guard. Henderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Anderson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dan Henderson wasn't active enough on the ground. Henderson lands with a shot to the body. Henderson scores with the left hand. Anderson knows he should have avoided that one. Anderson takes one to the side of the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Anderson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown enabling Henderson to counter with a crisp jab. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Curtis Anderson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Anderson shoots in but no luck this time. Anderson is breathing heavily. Anderson gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Henderson lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Anderson is looking to close the distance but Henderson sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Anderson crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Anderson is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
