Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Peter Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Sloan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward comes to the cage accompanied by Break Stuff. Sloan is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by What you know about that. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Ward! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Trevor Sloan! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ward shoots in looking for a takedown. Sloan tries to sprawl out of it but Ward keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sloan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Sloan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ward to the mat! Ward manages to get full guard. Sloan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ward seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ward shoots for a takedown but Sloan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Ward drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Sloan wants to sweep here but Ward controlling him for the moment. Sloan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ward thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloan uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Ward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Ward preventing the sweep. Ward drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sloan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ward has Sloan in his guard. Ward utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sloan trying to control but Ward is working from the bottom. Sloan is looking to stand up but Ward won't let him. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Trevor Sloan has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Ward doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sloan counters by moving into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Ward. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sloan manages to break the clinch.
Ward gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Sloan counters with a head kick. That will keep Ward thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ward fails with the takedown and Sloan counters with an inside leg kick. Ward tries for a takedown but Sloan circles away easily and Sloan finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Ward is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sloan gets a clinch. Sloan manages to pull guard.
Ward looking to pass the guard. Sloan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Sloan is looking for a kimura here.
Sloan is looking to take a break and control but Ward is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sloan is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Ward manages to get to full guard. Ward might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Sloan is looking to stand up but Ward won't let him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Trevor Sloan dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Ward postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sloan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ward, into his guard. Ward has a closed guard, preventing Sloan from standing up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloan is stalling in the full guard. Ward could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Trevor Sloan was stalling too much, according to the referee. Sloan tries to close the distance and clinch but Ward swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Ward has a takedown stuffed. Ward misses with a takedown attempt and Sloan counters with a straight right hand. Sloan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ward is trying to control Sloan's posture but Sloan avoids it. Ward avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Sloan. Sloan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ward keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Trevor Sloan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. The fight stays on the outside here - Sloan looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Sloan scores with a head kick. Ward tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Ward fails with the takedown and Sloan counters with a left to the body. Ward gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Sloan counters with a nice leg kick.

Ward misses with a takedown attempt and Sloan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Sloan lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Peter Ward is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sloan works Ward's body with a nice hook. Sloan with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Sloan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sloan tries to stand and escape but Ward actually recovers to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Trevor Sloan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sloan is trying to control the position but Ward postures up. Sloan will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Sloan trying to control the position from guard on top but Ward is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Trevor Sloan wasn't active enough on the ground. No luck with that takedown attempt from Ward. Sloan is looking to clinch but Ward is avoiding it.
Peter Ward has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sloan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ward to the ground. Sloan is now in Ward's guard. Sloan looking to pass the guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Sloan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Sloan wants to sweep but no luck. Sloan wants to pass the guard but Ward is keeping the position.

No joy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sloan gets control of Ward's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sloan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Sloan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sloan tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ward sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sloan's guard. Ward wants to work for an arm triangle but Sloan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ward lands with a punch from half guard. Sloan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. This has been an exciting period of action! Ward keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sloan's head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sloan doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Ward is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Ward is working Sloan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Trevor Sloan. Well Sloan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
