Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Cowell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Pope! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cowell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cowell lands in his opponent's guard. Cowell works a leg free and moves into half guard. Cowell trying to control the pace. Cowell is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Pope has managed to free his arm - good work. Cowell looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cowell looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Cowell is working for a submission of some sort.
Pope tries to get to full guard but Cowell has control of the leg. Pope is trying to control but Cowell passes into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Pope is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Pope looks to move to half guard but instead Cowell has passed into mount! Damn! Pope is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Cowell controlling the position easily from mount. Cowell has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cowell scoring with strikes but Pope is staying in there. Cowell scoring with strikes but Pope is staying in there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cowell avoids the attempt from Pope to control. Pope really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cowell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cowell controlling his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Anderson Cowell dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Cowell drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Pope is looking for a triangle here but Cowell uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Pope trying to remain calm as Cowell controls from the top position. Pope regains half guard. Cowell looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Cowell is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Pope has managed to free his arm - good work.

Cowell prevents Pope from improving his position. Pope is looking to get back to full guard here but Cowell has managed to pass to side control instead. Pope tries to hold on but Cowell postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cowell is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Cowell extends the arm and Pope is forced to tap!
