PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matt Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sly Randolph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller comes into the arena with Johnny Cash - Hurt blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Sly Randolph!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randolph tries to land a leg kick but Miller saw it coming and moves away.
Miller moves away from the strike by Randolph.
A jab from Randolph finds it's way through Miller's defenses.
A nice leg kick lands there from Miller.
Miller on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Randolph. Randolph obviously looking to wear him down.
Miller on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Miller closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Randolph did well to prevent Miller getting side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Miller looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Randolph with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Miller throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Miller lands a nice short elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Randolph wants to get back to full guard.
Miller is trying to control the action in half guard but Randolph is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Randolph is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Miller pulls his head out easily.

Randolph wants to improve his position but Miller is controlling well.
Miller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Randolph keeps working.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miller throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Randolph works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Miller throws a strike but Randolph rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Randolph pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Miller is keeping the position for now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miller shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Randolph is trying to control the position but Miller postures up.

Miller got a little sloppy there for a moment and Randolph has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Miller has managed to get both his arms back between Randolph's legs - danger averted.

Miller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Randolph buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Randolph slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Randolph feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Miller's calf.

Randolph scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Miller doesn't seem bothered though.
Miller shoots in for a takedown but Randolph shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Miller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Randolph tries to avoid it but Miller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Randolph to the ground. Randolph escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Matt Miller will probably get the nod.

Randolph displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Miller throws out the jab.
Miller has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Randolph finds it's way round the side to connect with Miller's head.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miller, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
