The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Diaz to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.

Penn tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Penn lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Diaz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Diaz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Nickolas Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn throws a series of punches but Diaz moves out of range.
Diaz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Penn sprawls well initially but Diaz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
