The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mott walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Optiplex checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. John Mott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A chopping leg kick lands by Mott. Optiplex gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mott to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mott pushes down on Optiplex's leg and manages to get into half guard. Mott seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Optiplex is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Mott looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Optiplex is in trouble now - Mott has advanced to mount! Mott fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
That's one minute gone in the round. Optiplex has left one of his arms exposed and Mott doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Optiplex screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Mott! John Mott decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
