PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Dillard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and TJ Dillashaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dillashaw has chosen Jump Around-House of Pain as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jose Dillard has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, TJ Dillashaw!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dillard shoots in for a takedown but Dillashaw shows good takedown defense.
Dillard has his takedown stuffed

and Dillashaw counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dillashaw.
Dillashaw drops down looking for an ankle pick but Dillard pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dillard misses with a body kick.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dillard.
Dillashaw fails with the takedown.
Dillard fails to land with a series of punches.
Dillashaw shoots in for a takedown but Dillard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jose Dillard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of TJ Dillashaw.

Dillashaw shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dillard's guard.
Dillashaw is looking to stand up but Dillard won't let him.
Dillashaw is stalling in the full guard.

Dillashaw stands and steps away. Dillard gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Dillashaw has clasped his hands together around Dillard's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Dillashaw stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Dillashaw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dillard swivels and escapes.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Dillard.
Nice sprawl there from Dillashaw as Dillard shoots in.
Dillard shoots in and drives through. Dillashaw sprawls well.
Dillard throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dillashaw's waist but Dillashaw gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dillard off to one side.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dillashaw shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dillard pinned against the cage. Dillard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dillard throws a nice looking combination but Dillashaw bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Dillashaw dives in and scores a takedown into Dillard's guard.
Dillashaw forces his way into half guard.

Let's hope that Dillashaw has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Dillard looks like he's trying to stand up.

TJ Dillashaw has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Dillashaw. No joy for Dillard on that attempt.

Dillashaw drops back looking for a leg! Dillard is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dillard manages to kick Dillashaw off! Dillashaw jumps back into Dillard's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

TJ Dillashaw dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Dillashaw changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dillard looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Dillashaw working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dillard is looking to regain half guard here but Dillashaw keeps moving and retains side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. TJ Dillashaw was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Dillashaw shoots in but no luck this time.
Dillashaw looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dillard is fending him off so far but Dillashaw persists. Nope, Dillard circles away and we're back to standing.
Dillard closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like TJ Dillashaw has been cut.
Dillard fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

so Dillashaw counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Dillashaw's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Dillashaw sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Dillard doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Dillashaw paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Dillard - great work!

Jose Dillard was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
