PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Peekay Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marty Mcghee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Williams might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Noise Won't Stop. Mcghee is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peekay Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marty Mcghee!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
A slow jab from Williams misses its intended target.
Williams lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Williams lands a slapping body shot.
Williams throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Williams. Mcghee does a little dance to reset his feet.
Williams pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Williams lands with an overhand left.
Williams misses with a head kick.
Williams cracks Mcghee with a right hand to the side of the head.
Williams throws the kick towards the body but Mcghee avoids it.
Mcghee moves out of range of the body kick.
Williams takes a swing at Mcghee's ribcage but misses.
Williams throws a nice looking combination but Mcghee bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Williams connects with a looping right hand.

Mcghee looking to score a takedown here. Williams is defending well but Mcghee drives through and ends up in Williams's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Mcghee drops back looking for a leg! Williams is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Williams manages to kick Mcghee off! Mcghee jumps back into Williams's guard.

Williams has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mcghee can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams looking for a sweep. Not yet Williams, not yet.
Williams really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Williams is working hard here to advance position.

Williams keeping moving, preventing Mcghee from controlling successfully.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Williams holds on and takes a little breather.

Mcghee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Williams lands some strikes from the bottom.

Mcghee is working Williams over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Mcghee wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.

Williams wants to sweep here but Mcghee controlling him for the moment.
Mcghee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mcghee is pushing down on Williams's leg trying to pass to half guard. Williams is fighting to maintain full guard but Mcghee has managed to sneak the leg through.
Williams is looking to improve his position.
Mcghee is looking to take a break and control but Williams is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mcghee is looking to advance position but Williams won't allow it.
Williams has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mcghee is working away from the top position though.

Williams is pressing down on Mcghee's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Williams on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Williams tries to get out of the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcghee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Williams manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mcghee tries to lock up and control but Williams gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Williams wants to control the pace but Mcghee is squirming around nicely.
Mcghee is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Peekay Williams will probably get the nod.

Williams fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mcghee manages to avoid it.

Williams looks to score with a jab to the body but Mcghee is just out of range.

Horrible takedown by Williams or perhaps it was just good defense by Mcghee which made him look bad.
Mcghee shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Williams swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Williams feints a jab promting Mcghee to slip. Williams then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mcghee slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mcghee throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Williams decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Mcghee manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Mcghee pulls Williams in to control the position.
Williams stopping the sweep attempt from Mcghee.
Mcghee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Williams's guard.
Marty Mcghee has got the better of the ground game so far.

Williams knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mcghee on the ground.

Williams throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Mcghee won't allow Williams to sweep him here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Williams is on top in guard.
Mcghee is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Williams stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Williams works Mcghee's body with a nice hook.
Williams lands a really nice looking cross but Mcghee seems unphased.

Williams lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Mcghee gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Williams is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Williams scores with a nice strike.
Williams tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Mcghee is able to avoid easily.

Williams throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mcghee was covering up waiting for the punch and Williams finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mcghee wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.

Williams has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mcghee not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Williams with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mcghee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Williams lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Williams.
Mcghee moves forwards but Williams connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Williams throws out a powerful jab.
Williams connects with a right hand. Mcghee shakes it off.
Williams misses with a takedown attempt - Mcghee sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Williams throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Williams thows a body shot but no joy.
Mcghee shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Williams as he jumps to the side.
Mcghee fails to land the takedown.
Williams throws out a leg kick but Mcghee moves out of range and Williams only half commits.

Horrible takedown by Mcghee or perhaps it was just good defense by Williams which made him look bad.
Peekay Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marty Mcghee.
Williams closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mcghee circles away.
Mcghee tries to move into range but Williams moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Mcghee loads up on a big right hand but Williams slips the punch.
Mcghee feints a jab promting Williams to slip. Mcghee then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Williams slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Williams lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Nice straight punches there by Williams. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Williams.
Mcghee takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Williams looks to land a body kick but Mcghee moved away.
Mcghee fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Williams avoids it really well and circles away.

Williams just misses with a punch to the body.
Williams takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Williams cracks Mcghee with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

and Mcghee counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mcghee.
Williams is trying to keep Mcghee in close.

Mcghee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Williams lands with a good body shot.
Mcghee shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Williams as he jumps to the side.
Mcghee has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Mcghee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mcghee closes the distance and clinches up with Williams, looking for a takedown. Mcghee pushes Williams against the cage but Williams circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mcghee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Williams fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Mcghee gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Williams counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Williams throws a leg kick but Mcghee moved away.
Williams lands a nice hook to Mcghee's body. Mcghee takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Williams throws out a powerful jab.

Williams closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Williams lands in his opponent's guard.

Mcghee controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.
Marty Mcghee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Peekay Williams showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Williams, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
