Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Markakis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mirko Naberovich! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Markakis with that takedown attempt. Naberovich looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Naberovich shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Naberovich was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Naberovich thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Naberovich avoids the attempt from Markakis to control. Naberovich gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Naberovich drives through and clinches with Markakis against the cage.
The referee calls for Markakis to work.
Markakis pulls guard. Markakis looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Markakis wants to stand but Naberovich is controlling the position. Naberovich gets to his feet - Markakis follows without any prompting. Markakis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Naberovich as he avoids it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Markakis clinches up against the cage. Markakis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Markakis misses with a takedown and Naberovich counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Naberovich. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Markakis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Markakis drags the fight down to the ground.
Markakis wants to stand and escape but Naberovich is having none of it. Markakis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Markakis trying to control the position here. Naberovich stops Markakis from standing up. Markakis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Naberovich off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Naberovich should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Markakis throws a series of punches but Naberovich moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Markakis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Markakis takes the fight into the clinch. Markakis is looking to control Naberovich's arms but Naberovich gets an underhook and turns him. Now Markakis has his back to the cage. Markakis manages to break the clinch.
Naberovich misses with a takedown attempt and Markakis moves into the clinch. Markakis jumps guard and drags Naberovich to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Naberovich trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Naberovich stands and steps away. Markakis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Markakis with a poor takedown and Naberovich counters with a single leg into guard. Markakis didn't expect that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Naberovich stands up and waves to Markakis to follow him. Markakis fails with the takedown and Naberovich counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Markakis! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Markakis wants to control but Naberovich is having none of it. Markakis throwing hammer fists to the chest of Naberovich. What's that going to do exactly?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Markakis regains half guard. Markakis manages to escape and get back to his feet! Naberovich closes the distance and clinches up with Markakis, looking for a takedown. Naberovich pushes Markakis against the cage but Markakis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Naberovich throws a head kick that misses. No joy there for Markakis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Naberovich drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Markakis sneaks out the side door and pushes Naberovich away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Markakis clinches up with Naberovich and pushes him back against the cage. Markakis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Markakis rushes Naberovich and presses him up against the cage. Markakis landing knees to the head.
Markakis controlling the action here for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Naberovich tries to pull guard but Markakis won't allow it.
Markakis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Naberovich avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Markakis shoots in but Naberovich avoids the takedown attempt easily. Naberovich gets caught flat footed, as Markakis shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Naberovich gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Markakis breaks the clinch.
Markakis gets in close and instigates a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mirko Naberovich will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Markakis. Markakis misses with a takedown attempt - Naberovich sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Markakis clinches up against the cage. Markakis decides to pull guard. Markakis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Naberovich throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Markakis throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Markakis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Naberovich! Markakis is standing up, even though he is in mount. Naberovich is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Markakis wants to clinch and Naberovich counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Naberovich drops down looking for an ankle pick but Markakis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Markakis shoots in for a takedown but Naberovich shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Markakis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Markakis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Naberovich, pushing him back against the cage. Markakis manages to pull guard.
Markakis is working an open guard so Naberovich takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Markakis lands a jab-cross combination. Markakis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Markakis manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Naberovich fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Markakis sprawls well initially but Naberovich persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Markakis looks like he's trying to stand up.
Naberovich gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Markakis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Naberovich is rocked! Markakis lands a big elbow - Naberovich is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Markakis!
