Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Emil Yanenko!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shields drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Yanenko is trying to get back to half guard.
Shields will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Yanenko gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Shields wants to control from the top but Yanenko keeps moving.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Yanenko is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shields is aware though and is defending well.
Shields stands up over Yanenko, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Yanenko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shields's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Shields throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yanenko works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Yanenko pushes a forearm under Shields's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Shields is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Emil Yanenko!
A relieved looking Emil Yanenko thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
