Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aaron Rivers! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva misses with an attempted mid kick.
Silva slaps away a takedown attempt from Rivers, before circling back to the center of the mat. Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Rivers looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Rivers throws a leg kick but Silva checks it. Silva throws a head kick that misses and Rivers counters with a flying knee. Nice. Silva drives through with a takedown into guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rivers has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rivers working for a triangle but Silva defends it easily.
Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rivers is keeping the position for now. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva wants to control from the top but Rivers keeps moving. Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rivers on the ground. Rivers is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Silva is aware though and is defending well. Rivers tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rivers has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though. Silva avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rivers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. This has been an exciting period of action! Rivers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Silva defends it easily. Silva wants to pass the guard but Rivers is keeping the position.

Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rivers looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rivers has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Rivers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rivers has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Rivers's legs - danger averted. Rivers throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Silva engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Silva stopping the sweep attempt from Rivers. Rivers trying to control the position.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Silva is sitting in close to Rivers's body. Rivers has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Silva is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Silva is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Rivers.
