Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mamed Anzor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack White! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anzor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Anzor lands in his opponent's guard. Anzor missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. White wants to sweep here but Anzor controlling him for the moment. Anzor has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of White is proving hard to escape from. White bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Anzor's guard. White trying to control but Anzor is working from the bottom. Anzor looking for submissions from the bottom but instead White passes into side control.
Anzor throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. White is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Anzor knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. White working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. White lands some shots froms side control. White advances to full mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. White scoring with strikes but Anzor is staying in there. White landing strikes from the mount and Anzor is in trouble! White is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Anzor has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! White is trying to take his opponent's back.
White landing punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. White postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Anzor looks a forlorn figure.
Anzor is desperately trying to improve his position but White has a good base and remains in mount. White fails to advance to Anzor's back. White can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Anzor is looking to escape. White has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Anzor is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jack White! A relieved looking Jack White thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
