The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Thalis to the mat! Thalis manages to get full guard.
Thalis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hughes defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thalis wants to get back to his feet but Hughes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hughes passes Thalis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Thalis is trying to control but can't.
Thalis slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Thalis wants to sweep here but Hughes controlling him for the moment.
Thalis working for a triangle but Hughes defends it easily.
Hughes passes Thalis's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hughes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Thalis defend it? Hughes steps over the head and cranks it - Thalis is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hughes!
