PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Phil Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Phil Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tyson Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz tries to clinch there but Mendes circles away.
Cruz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendes paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Mendes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cruz is trying to get back to full guard.
Cruz wants to control but Mendes is keeping busy.

Mendes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cruz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cruz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mendes is working away from the top position though.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mendes lands a nice short elbow.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee asks Mendes politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mendes prefers to stall for the moment though.

Let's hope that Mendes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
