Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Luc Picard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Vegata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Picard's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Picard Song. Jean Luc Picard has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Luc Picard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Vegata!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Picard lands with a nice body punch.
Picard fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Vegata throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Picard uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Vegata.
Picard catches Vegata with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Vegata gets the takedown into side control.
Vegata working the ground and pound.
Picard is trying to get back to half guard.
Picard gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vegata connects with a nice short shot to Picard's temple.
Picard wants to get back to full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Picard is defending against the submission attempts here by Vegata.
Vegata wants to pass to mount but Picard is defending the position.

Picard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vegata is working away from the top position though.

Vegata is looking for a kimura but Picard is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Vegata to get the leverage.
Vegata throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Picard tries to roll over but Vegata keeps him under control.

Vegata thows a huge punch but Picard dodges it nicely.
Vegata lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Picard wants to control but Vegata is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Vegata wants to lay and pray for a moment but Picard keeps working.

Picard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vegata is working away from the top position though.
Vegata stalling away here and it's allowed Picard to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Picard is looking for a triangle but Vegata pushes his legs off easily.

Picard wants to control but Vegata passes easily into half guard.
Picard tries to get to full guard but Vegata has control of the leg.
Vegata has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Vegata drops an elbow to the side of Picard's head.
Vegata has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Vegata has hold of Picard's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Picard manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Picard slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Picard is trying to control but can't.
Vegata drops an elbow to the side of Picard's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Picard manages to get to full guard.
Vegata throws an elbow that misses. Picard uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Vegata's guard. Nice move by Picard!
Vegata has Picard pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vegata tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Vegata dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Vegata gets caught napping as Picard dives in and scores a takedown. Vegata manages to retain guard.
Vegata is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Vegata is trying to control the action in half guard but Picard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Vegata thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Vegata working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Vegata might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Picard haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

You can see the frustration on Picard's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A close second round but Antonio Vegata will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Picard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Picard cracks Vegata with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Jab, jab by Picard - just one landing.
Picard swings for the body but Vegata moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Vegata. Picard does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vegata cracks Picard with an open hand slap.
Picard looks to score with a jab to the body but Vegata is just out of range.
Picard walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Picard defending well as Vegata loads up on a big left hand.

Vegata shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Picard is refusing to be controlled, as Vegata sits in half guard.
Picard is trying to maintain the position but Vegata is very close to passing his half guard.

Vegata seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Picard is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Antonio Vegata!
