PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Crash Holly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Oh My God. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Crash Holly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Holly sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Holly lands with a cross.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Holly circles away easily
letting Holly counter with a right hand.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt.
Crash Holly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Johnson.
Holly scores with a hook.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Holly sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Johnson checks a leg kick.
Holly throws a leg kick which misses Johnson's front leg but catches the back leg as Johnson tries to avoid it.
Holly cracks Johnson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Holly tries to land a body kick

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Holly is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson is looking to advance position but Holly won't allow it.
Holly is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Johnson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Holly moves into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Holly looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Holly gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Holly has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Holly passes Johnson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Johnson is pressing down on Holly's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Holly trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Holly looking to pass the guard.
Johnson pulls Holly in close to prevent any damage.
Johnson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Johnson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Holly can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Holly throws a big right hand that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holly throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Crash Holly dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Holly is looking to score with low kicks.
Johnson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Holly throws a head kick but Johnson moves out of range.
Holly throws a head kick that misses.
Holly throws a low kick but it's checked well by Johnson.
Holly jabs Johnson to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Holly's waist but Holly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.
Holly is looking to chop away at Johnson's legs.
Some bone on bone action there as Johnson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Holly throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Holly is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Holly misses with a low kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Holly throws a series of punches but Johnson moves out of range.
Holly throws a low kick but Johnson avoids it.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch but Holly swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Johnson closes the distance looking to clinch
and Holly counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Crash Holly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Holly misses with a straight right.

Johnson moves into range and clinches up with Holly.
Holly lands a body punch in the clinch.

Holly has Johnson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Holly pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Johnson tumbling to the mat - Holly dives into Johnson's guard.

Johnson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Michael Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Johnson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Holly.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Holly postures up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Holly accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Holly wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
Johnson striking off his back but it's not causing Holly any problems.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Holly trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Johnson has Holly pulled in close to control his posture.

Johnson has his foot on Holly's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Holly works his way back into a safe position though.

Holly is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Johnson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Johnson has escaped and now he's on top!
Holly has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Johnson has passed into side control.

Holly is trying to improve his position.
Johnson tries to move into full mount but can't pass Holly's legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Holly rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Johnson's guard! Nice work there by Holly!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Crash Holly will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Holly tries to score with a low kick but Johnson moves his leg out of the way.
Holly works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Johnson checks a leg kick.

Holly connects with a crisp jab.
Decent striking displayed by Holly there.
Holly tries a head kick but it misses.
Holly defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson.
Holly throws a looping overhand right but Johnson ducks down to avoid it.
Holly throws a low kick, looking for Johnson's leg but Johnson calmly moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Holly throws a solid leg kick but Johnson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Holly.
Johnson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Holly tries to avoid it but Johnson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Holly to the ground. Holly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Holly throws a head kick but Johnson moves out of range.
Holly walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Johnson checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Johnson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Holly to the ground. Johnson is now in Holly's guard.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Holly gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Holly pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Johnson is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Johnson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Holly is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Johnson.
Holly throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
A control attempt from Johnson but he's now mounted!
Holly seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Johnson is holding on tight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Holly manages to capitalize on a mistake by Johnson to take his back!
Johnson trying to control the hands but Holly breaks the grip.

Holly has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Johnson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson is trying to break free.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Holly's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Holly throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Johnson turns into Holly and is now in his guard.
Johnson pushing down on Holly's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Holly wants to get back to full guard but Johnson has passed into side control.

Johnson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson advances to mount.
Holly is squirming around, avoiding Johnson's attempts to control the action.
Michael Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Crash Holly is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnson is trying to control here but Holly has managed to regain half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Crash Holly.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Holly, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
