Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mylly Nyrkki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock shoots in but Nyrkki avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Shamrock looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Nyrkki. Shamrock shrugs it off though.

Nyrkki scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Nyrkki working the body and head with strikes.
Shamrock seems a little lost for a moment, as Nyrkki dominates the positioning.

Nyrkki is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shamrock has escaped the position, nice work there.

Nyrkki has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Nyrkki decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Nyrkki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shamrock doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nyrkki.

Nyrkki stands up out of the half guard.
Nyrkki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shamrock swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Nyrkki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nyrkki lands in his opponent's guard.
Nyrkki controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shamrock keeping moving, preventing Nyrkki from controlling successfully.
Nyrkki tries to free his leg and advance position but Shamrock is retaining full guard.
Shamrock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nyrkki is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shamrock throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Shamrock wants to get back to his feet but Nyrkki is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Shamrock is working an open guard so Nyrkki takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nyrkki looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shamrock is fending him off so far but Nyrkki persists. Nope, Shamrock circles away and we're back to standing.
Shamrock lands with a kick to the temple. Nyrkki shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Shamrock misses with a takedown

and Nyrkki counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Shamrock!

Shamrock is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Nyrkki takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nyrkki cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Shamrock is trying to escape the mount.

Nyrkki trying to control but Shamrock is having none of it.

Nyrkki is working for a guillotine from mount but Shamrock frees his head quite easily.
Shamrock is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Nyrkki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shamrock is desperately trying to improve his position but Nyrkki has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nyrkki shoots in for a double leg but Shamrock sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Nyrkki gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Nyrkki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nyrkki shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Shamrock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nyrkki slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Nyrkki distracts Shamrock with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Shamrock will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Nyrkki drops back looking for a leg! Shamrock is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shamrock manages to kick Nyrkki off! Nyrkki jumps back into Shamrock's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nyrkki wants to control from the top but Shamrock keeps moving.

Nyrkki stands up over Shamrock, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Shamrock throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Nyrkki shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Nyrkki was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nyrkki takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Nyrkki blocks Shamrock's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Shamrock tries to reverse the position but Nyrkki maintains control.

Nyrkki trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Shamrock bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Nyrkki scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Nyrkki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shamrock sprawls well initially but Nyrkki persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Nyrkki is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Nyrkki is looking to advance position but Shamrock won't allow it.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nyrkki tries for a takedown but Shamrock sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Shamrock counters with a two punch combo.

Nyrkki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nyrkki lands in his opponent's guard.

Nyrkki postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Shamrock to stand up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Shamrock stuffs the takedown.

Shamrock gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Shamrock pushes Nyrkki off and gets back to his feet.
Mylly Nyrkki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nyrkki will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Shamrock holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Nyrkki lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Nyrkki decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Shamrock counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Nyrkki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nyrkki is looking for a kimura but Shamrock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nyrkki to get the leverage.

Nyrkki gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shamrock takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Nyrkki shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Nyrkki was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mylly Nyrkki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mylly Nyrkki showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nyrkki, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
