And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Theo Matthews!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews throws a lazy right hand but Tennant sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Tennant misses with a right hand

and Matthews moves into the clinch.

Matthews gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Matthews has gone for a leg lock! Tennant slips out almost immediately though and dives into Matthews's guard.
Tennant engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Matthews has an active guard here but Tennant has managed to pass into half guard.

Matthews looking for submissions off his back.

Matthews tries to get to full guard but Tennant has control of the leg.
Tennant works his way into side control.
Matthews is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Matthews's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Tennant is looking to take a break and control but Matthews is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Matthews looking for a sweep but Tennant has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Tennant prevents Matthews from getting the reversal.
Matthews tries to control the position but Tennant now has his back.

Matthews is in bad spot here.
Matthews staying busy and making it hard for Tennant to control.
Matthews breaks Tennant's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

We're going to have a standup here because David Tennant wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Matthews tries to work over Tennant's front leg with a kick but Tennant checks it.
Matthews wants to clinch up but Tennant keeps it at a distance.

Matthews steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tennant.
Tennant tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Matthews was well out of range. Poor timing from Tennant.
A looping hook to the body misses from Matthews. Tennant does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tennant misses with a jab to the body
letting Matthews counter with a right hand.
Matthews looks to land a body kick but Tennant moved away.
Tennant connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Tennant jabbing away but nothing is landing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tennant thows a body shot but no joy.
Matthews takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Matthews on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Matthews tries a head kick but it misses.
Tennant lands a jab to Matthews's midsection.
Sloppy strikes from Tennant. Those never looked like landing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tennant avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Matthews misses with a jab to the body
and Tennant counters with a nice uppercut.
Tennant fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Matthews looks winded!
Tennant rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Matthews decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tennant's guard.
Matthews trying to control the position from guard on top but Tennant is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Tennant dominated that round.
That's time! Tennant's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
